ARK Mutation Calculator

Each baby has a 7.31% chance of a mutation while both parents are under the 20-mutation soft cap. See how the odds change as parents cap out, and how likely you are to see a mutation across a clutch of babies.

How ARK mutations work

Every breeding makes three independent mutation rolls at 2.5% each, so a baby has a 7.31% chance of at least one mutation while both parents are below the cap. A successful mutation adds +2 levels to one random stat and a new color to a random region.

Each creature tracks two mutation counters (one from each parent). The 20/20 soft cap means rolls that pick a parent already at 20 are skipped — but it's a soft cap: pair a high-mutation parent with a clean (zero-counter) mate and you can keep mutating the clean side well past 20. In ASA, wild and mutated levels are tracked separately, with a hard ceiling of 255 mutated levels per stat.

ASA traits. ASA adds a Gene Scanner trait system on top of this. A Mutable trait additively raises the mutation chance for one specific stat (about +1% to +2% per tier), and a Robust trait raises the chance a baby inherits the higher parent's value for a stat. Traits don't pass through breeding — they're transferred only with the Gene Scanner. The exact stacked Mutable odds are community-estimated rather than officially published.
